CDD Fact Check: Did Two Herdsmen Climb Azman Airline In Lagos Airport?

False and Misleading

A 12seconds video surfaced on social media, particularly on Twitter, WhatsApp and blog, in the early hours of July 19, 2019.  The 12-second long video is alleging that two suspected herdsmen climbed AZMAN Aircraft and were spraying liquid content into the engine.
The aircraft which had passengers on board was scheduled from the Lagos Murtala Mohammad Airport to Port Harcourt.

CDD fact-checkers reviewed the post from the video originator on twitter, which had garnered over 200 retweets and several likes and comments before deletion. However, a blog Idnoble TV had picked up the video with the title: Herdsmen just climbed an AZMAN bound flight to PH from Lagos. The page on the blog had received a total view of 11,746; about 2,500 people had viewed the video.
CDD fact-checker contacted the Aviation Authority, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) who claimed that the 12 seconds video did not capture what transpired. That an incident which lasted 30minutes occurred; however, the identity of the arrested suspect is yet to be ascertained.  CDD review of the video in circulation also observed only one person climbing the aeroplane engine compartment as against two that was in the claim. An Azman Air official verified this.

Fact checkers can authoritatively confirm the occurrence of the incidence; however, the identity and intent of the suspect cannot be ascertained from the 12 seconds video. The claim of two herdsmen climbing the aircraft is therefore MISLEADING and FALSE at this moment.
