CLAIM: A video of some popular Hollywood actors endorsing Peter Obi has gone viral on social media including WhatsApp.

The almost 2 minutes video shows actors like Idris Elba, Mathew McConaughey, Anne Hatheway, and Jenifer Aniston among others.

In the video, the actors were seen holding up cards that say “It makes sense to vote Peter Obi in 2023.”

And the caption reads “Impressive, Peter Obi’s campaign has taken on a global outlook with leading American TV and Hollywood actors driving the campaign.”

The video has accumulated 5,676 Retweets, 910 Quote Tweets, and 13.7K Likes as of the time of this report. It was posted from Charly Boy’s verified Twitter account.

FACT-CHECKING PROCESS: A manual search of the video revealed that the video is a compilation of videos from as far back as 2017.

Further checks show that the content of the video is from a YouTube channel called WIRED owned by Conde Nast, the YouTube channel is an extension of the magazine with the same name and has its headquarters in San Fransisco, California.

The video has no relation with Nigeria or even politics, it focuses on Web Most Searched Questions of celebrities in the US.

CONCLUSION: Fact-checker at the CDD can confirm that the video was manipulated to mislead people, hence the claim that Peter Obi’s campaign has gone global with American TV and Hollywood actors driving the campaign is false.
